The shadows she saw on the lawn prompted her to spend months developing the technique that, in contrast did not portray the selected object onto canvas. The subject has been transformed into it's own representation with the canvas taking its interpretation from the artist. This works best when dealing with living objects as well as items that have a shelf life like fruits and people. Alexa Meade's style of painting, that is extremely ephemeral nature, is apparent. The only thing of Alexa's art that survives is the photo. Since the painting and photographic methods are closely coordinated it creates an illusion of trompe l'oeil, that creates the illusion of three dimensions appears only at specific points, such as the region around the eyes or hair. Meade sometimes incorporates painted models in the space surrounding them. They are able to be part of the world the artist has constructed. It eliminates any distinction between painting, photography and installation.
